c. 1200 - 1250 Original building destroyed in the disastrous fire after the French attack in 1377. Only the barrel-vaulted Norman cellar survived and remains to this day.
1573 Queen Elizabeth I visits the town and names it "Rye Royale".
1742 (June 8th). John Breads, (Breeds), is executed for the murder of Allan Grebell whom he mistook for the Mayor of Rye, James Lamb, (A Mr Roger Breeds was the Mayor of Rye, 1984 - 1986.)
c. 1850 Original Flushing Inn divided into three properties.
1901 Discovery of a wall painting in what is now the Restaurant in the autumn of 1901. The painting is believed to have been produced c. 1547-1554. (Reign of Edward VI).
1942 Wall damaged by cannon shells during air raid. Restored in 1961.
1960 December Purchase of Flushing Inn by Mr and Mrs Mann.
1962 November First Gastronomic Occasion.
1966 October Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip visit Rye. Also 900th celebration of Battle Of Hastings. Two Gastronomic Occasions.
1967 Second wall painting started, depicting some of the changes in British history since 1554, (Brenda Cockett, Rye).
1968 Sir Robert and Dame Patties Menzies, (Warden of the Cinque Ports), lunches with Rye Borough Council at The Flushing Inn.
1977 June Royal "Silver Jubilee" Gastronomic Occasion.
1977 November 150th Official Gastronomic Occasion.
1978 September H.M. The Queen Mother, (Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports)
1980 The Queen Mother visits Rye.
1981 January 200th Gastronomic Occasion.
1981 September 16th The Flushing Inn became a "Family Run" Restaurant. (Flynn & Mann families.)
1982 September 12th Louise.
1984 2nd wall painting continued, (Anne Marie Christiansen)
1985 Flushing Inn celebrates 25 years of same ownership with a series of five Commemorative Gastronomic Occasions
1987 March 27th Laura.
1987 October 16th The Great Storm.
1988 November 25 years of Gastronomic Occasions
1989 Roof repairs and restoration.
1990 30 years at The Flushing Inn
1992 Mr and Mrs Mann. Monks Way.
1994 August 12th Purchase and renovation of Flushing House, which restored The Flushing Inn to its original state.
1996 March 27th The John Lester Suite. Accommodation at the Flushing Inn
1997 January 2nd Restoration of 1540 Fresco. (Tom Organ Workshop Paintings, Faversham.)
2000 40 years at The Flushing Inn
2001 June The Flushing Inn enters the 21st Century as www.theflushinginn.com is born.
